80s ~ modern anime
80s anime:
Did you know that around the 1970's through 1980's, people called Anime 'Japanimation?' And beginning at 1990's, people started to call it Anime? What's the difference? Well perhaps Japanimation is too long to say, so people decided that anime is a better term for it. Anime is the shortened word for Animation. But if you type only anime in google search or another search engine, you'll see American Anime and other anime in the world! Isn't that weird?
Don't you think it's amazing that Robot anime (it's called 'Mecha Anime') is still alive? It's still popular in Japan and throughout the world today! Sci-fi (Science-Fiction) anime was very very popular in 1980s. For example, 'Gundam' or 'Aura Battler Dunbine'. If you are interested in Robots, Mecha anime might be a good selection for you!
90s anime:
Fandub:
Fandub is Fan made dub or redub of anime production. The reason that I'm talking about Fandub is because there are some important things related to 1990s anime. One of the important things is the voice acting. All of the anime right now (modern) is created by using real people's voices. It's very epic, in my opinion. The first recorded project was in 1994: 'Sinnlos im Weltraum.' Don't you think it's epic when we use real people's voices? I think it is. It's all famous people (well, maybe not always. Rising stars, maybe).
Starting in 1998, popularity of fandub started to increase, especially in German. Anime like Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, Fushigi and Detective conan etc. include characters that use real human voices, not robotic.
Fansub (not Fandub):
Fansub is short word for Fan-subtitled, and it's used to translate foreign languages in foreign films or television programs. It's translated by fans and subtitles in other languages - other than the language that the film is originally created with.

The explosion of Fansub started in the 1980's. Most fansubs have similar file sizes: 175MB(mega-byte), 233MB, and 350MB. The HD (Very excellent quality - which means that it is in high definition) is about 2000MB. It's like watching on a new DVD.
In April of 2008, two Gonzo titles began. These are Youtube, Cruchroll and BOST. When streaming videos, people can pay much as they could to download high quality vidoes (HD). In October 2009, there were a large number of anime in Crunchyroll. Some countries actually change the language of character, without using fansub. And they use other people that speak their language to record the voice. But the original voice of the character better - by far - than when the actor and language have changed. Don't you think so? The voice sounds weird.
I hope you guys know how anime is different from American animation, right? Anime has 'pathetic eye.' Some are very big, and they are very emotional. And the hands are drawn in a very specific way. The hair is drawn in a very stylish fashion(to me?). If you have friend who is not very interested in anime, try to make them watch just one epsiode or series. Tell them what's good about it and what's so fun about it. :D
